Case Study:

Montana Department of Agriculture

The Montana Department of Agriculture needed a way to cut through the digital noise and promote their state's agricultural products to a global audience and make the agricultural producers proud of what they do. Flying Cow Media delivered a stunning wall calendar that serves as both a marketing tool and a valuable resource for growers and stakeholders all year round.

The Montana Department of Agriculture wanted a unique and impactful way to promote Montana’s agricultural products globally while providing a valuable resource to local growers and stakeholders. We crafted a traditional yet innovative solution that stood out from the digital clutter—a large, visually stunning wall calendar.

The Challenge:

With the rise of digital media, it was essential to find a method of communication that would effectively capture the attention of trade representatives and agricultural producers. The goal was to create something that would keep Montana’s agriculture top of mind every day of the year.

Our Solution:

We developed a comprehensive strategy centered around a beautifully designed wall calendar:

  • Visual Impact: The calendar featured high-quality photos of Montana’s agricultural landscape, showcasing different products grown or produced in the state. The larger-than-average size made it a standout piece that people would want to display.

  • Educational Content: Each month included "Did You Know" facts about Montana’s agriculture industry, offering insights into the crops and products featured in the photos.

  • Functional Design: The last page served as an almanac with key contact information for the Montana Department of Agriculture, USDA, and other essential resources, along with climate and agricultural data relevant to the state.

  • Digital Accessibility: We also created a webpage where users could download a PDF of the calendar, allowing for broader distribution and easy access.

Results:

The wall calendar successfully cut through the marketing noise, serving as both a promotional tool and a practical resource. It kept Montana’s agricultural products in front of trade representatives and producers year-round, reinforcing the state's agricultural brand globally and locally.

The Future:

This project demonstrated the power of combining traditional marketing methods with creative design. It is now likely it will be produced annually, including the very best agricultural photos from the state of Montana. The calendar’s success has also opened the door for similar projects in the future that blend visual appeal with functional utility, further promoting Montana’s agricultural excellence, such as a magazine, coffee table book and other variations of the calendar.
